Distinctiveness

What makes a brand recognisable as that particular brand: name, logo, colours, tone and recurring expressions the recipient links to the brand without thinking about it. Distinctiveness is about being recognised, whereas differentiation is about standing out on substance. A brand can have strong distinctiveness without a sharp promise, and vice versa.
